Nupiri-ti Palawa is a Palawa-led arts festival celebrating Tasmanian Aboriginal art and cultural expression across Lutruwita. 

Guided by Palawa Elders and cultural advisors, the festival creates space for artists to present work across Lutruwita through the involvement of multiple galleries, councils and public spaces. 

The Festival

The first Nupiri-ti Palawa Art Festival will take place over four weeks in November 2027, and will bring together commercial, community, and council-owned galleries and art spaces across Nipaluna/Hobart and broader Lutruwita.

Cultural Advisors

The Nupiri-ti Palawa concept was initiated by founding cultural advisors Jeanette James, Theresa Sainty and Cheryl Mundy trimanya. Theresa Sainty and Cheryl Mundy trimanya continue to provide Cultural advice and leadership to the Nupiri-ti Palawa team working out of Rosny Farm and Clarence City Council.

Governance

Nupiri-ti Palawa Art Festival’s independent decision-making process is governed by four key principles: knowledge sharing and capacity building, representation, self-determination, and accountability.

Palawa and Pakana are used interchangeable throughout this website to respectfully reflect how these words are used by the Community.
